Our Caravan Adventure

Our Caravan Adventure

Clarabelle, our little second hand caravan, had her first outing of the year to a lovely spot in North Norfolk.  We were lucky enough to go for just over a week in August, and the kids loved our little caravan adventure.

Our Caravan Adventure

We went to a lovely campsite on the North Norfolk coast in a village called Trimingham.  We love North Norfolk, and have spent a lot of time there.  We also love our little Clarabelle, who we bought last year when James was made redundant.  The kids love going away in the caravan, it’s such an adventure for them, and for us it gives us all the things we love to do: being by the sea,  cooking and eating Al fresco, camp fires and just generally relaxing of an evening with a glass of wine in hand surround by citronella candles.

Our Little Camp

Clarabelle is only a 2 birth caravan, but the bed is a large double so will fit all 3 children when needed.  We have a large awning which we sleep in and provides all important cover if it decides to rain.  This year we also took a pop up gazebo.  We were really lucky with the weather, and the gazebo provided some much needed shade.

image

The kids loved staying in the caravan playing their puzzles and watching DVDs, they were so happy and comfortable in their little space.  Which was fortunate, as setting up camp with small children running around is no easy feat!  This was the 4th time we have been out with Clarabelle, so we managed to set up the awning in record time!

Daily Activities

We visited the beach several days during our stay.  The North Norfolk coast is home to some wonderful beaches.  My favourite is one near Mundesley, a little spot popular with locals and dog walkers but relatively empty, we felt like we had it all to ourselves.  Lovely clean sand for building castles and areas of stones which had created little rock pools for the kids to explore.

We had a lovely day at BeWilderwood, which was only a 30 minute drive from where we stayed.  My parents bought one of the new static caravans on the site this year, so it was lovely to spend a day with them too.  I think Grandad forgot he was 70 this year, and may have enjoyed it more than the kids!

image

There was also plenty to do on the actual campsite itself.  There was an indoors swimming pool, gym for adults, and playground with several open areas of grass for the kids to run around in.  The clubhouse also had a licensed bar, and restaurant, and several nights during our stay had family friendly entertainment: a kids talent contest; family quiz; bingo; and a kids magic show with balloon modelling afterwards.

The campsite also had its own woodland walk, a route around the whole campsite where the children looked for stamps to collect and got a little medal at the end of it.  It was a lovely walk, some bits through the campsite itself, but some through the surrounding woodland and hedgerows, alongside fields of wheat and passed the fishing lake.  Of course little legs get tired, and piggy backs were in order!

Eating

One of my favourite parts about camping is putting on the BBQ and eating outside by candlelight.  We did eat in the club house a few nights but mainly cooked on our little BBQ.   We even entertained and my parents and Uncle and Auntie who have a holiday home not far from the site joined us for BBQ steak, peppercorn sauce and chips from the sites takeaway.  I’m not a big fan of sausages and burgers, unless I have made my own lamb burgers,  however we were able to cook lovely meals with very limited resources.  We also enjoyed seasoned chicken breasts with jacket potatoes, and my personal favourite, salmon fillet with samphire, which I bough fresh earlier that day from a house we drove past.

The kids also enjoyed their sausages on the BBQ, and particularly toasting marshmallows, which in my opinion is an absolute must when you go camping.

I also enjoyed an amazing dressed crab salad in the club house.  If you like seafood, you really cant come to Norfolk without feasting on a Cromer crab!

All in all we had a fabulous time.  If you haven’t tried camping or caravaning, you really must. It’s such a great adventure for all the family. North Norfolk coast is idyllic in my opinion, and we loved the campsite, so much to do for all the family rain or shine, our perfect little caravan adventure.

Ah it looks like so much fun, we keep talking about getting a motor home when the kids are older. I am not much of a camper but I do think the kids would love which would make it worth while, also like you we would certainly enjoy a barbie. Glad you all had a nice time, those photos are great, I love that last one, it just too sweet! #KCACOL

All the best of outdoor living. That double bed looks great fun for the kids and what a great area with beaches and Berwilderwood. Looks like a lovely family holiday. #KCACOLS

You make it look idyllic! I am not sure my family (teenage son who hates everything, husband who has bad memories of childhood caravan holidaysand a son who is a full time wheelchair user) would create that idyll though! #KCACOLS

Aw I’ve been to Norfolk visiting friends before. It’s a lovely part of the Uk. I’ve always fancied a caravan…but more a static one than one you pull, I don’t think either me or my hubby could be trusted to drive the car with it on the back! #KCACOLS

What a great trip you had. The BBQ made my mouth water and I love the photo of your two at the end. I have never been to the North Norfolk, but it is now on my list. Pen x #KCACOLS

This reminds me to my parents in law as they are the big campers. Thy used to have a similar caravan than yours and used to travel everywhere. They don’t have it anymore but they still have a great equipment to go camping. It is amazing how can you really get very comfy if you know what to bring. I have been to Norfolk before. It is a beautiful area. I love your photos and your holiday sounds amazing. I enjoyed reading your post. Thanks so much for helping me co-host this week! I hope you like the experience, 🙂 x

My husband and I used to love this kind of thing. We usually did the tent thing. But then our work schedules changed and it got difficult to get away for a couple of days together. And now Peachy is here and this year she was too little to venture out for such an activity. Next summer I think she might be old enough to enjoy it. We’ll have to take her on a little adventure. #KCACOLS

Ah, I love Norfolk! I have a friend who lives near Thetford in a small town. We’ve had many a lovely time there. I love taking Oliver and having an excuse to explore new places. Didn’t know about Cromer Crab, will have to try that next time we head over 🙂 I do love a caravan too – although I prefer heading to a static caravan with a lovely shower and loo built in 😀

  61. September 23, 2016 / 7:26 pm
