I’ve always said that the 3 main elements to any good party is good company, good food and good drink. However, if you are hosting a Summer party this year, there are other ways you can make it extra special and one that your guests won’t forget.

Bring the Outside In

If the sun is shining then you need to allow your outside space to communicate with your home, it is afterall just an extension of it! Whether it be a balcony, courtyard or large garden.

If you have doors that connect the spaces then fling them open. Colourful pot plants in the house can make the garden seem to spill in, and matching table decor inside and out can let your indoor and outdoors spaces merge.

Light the BBQ

If the weather is right then you can’t beat the great British BBQ. But just because you have got the BBQ on doesn’t mean your are limited to bangers and burgers.

Homemade lamb burgers, salmon fillets with samphire, fillet steak and houlomi and chorizo skewers are amongst our favourites on the BBQ. Served alongside hasselbach potatoes or homemade coleslaw and potato salad.

Outside Seating Area

If your outside cooking on the BBQ, then ideally you want your guests out there with you. They best way to do that? Provide an inviting and comfortable seating area, where everyone can sit down and have a natter whilst enjoying the sunshine.

Rattan furniture offers a great low maintenance option for outside seating. Hardwearing, easy to clean, robust, elegant and available in many diferent colours and styles.

Bar

I already mentioned that providing plenty of drink (both alcohol and non) is a key element to hosting a great Summer party, but what about making your bar area a feature point? It’s easy enough: plenty of choice, some statement glasswear, and you could even create your own cocktail menu and leave out all the bells and whistles for people to create their own.

Lights

When the sun finally starts to set, and the evening draws on, you can’t beat a little atmospheric lighting. Not essential, but can really create a relaxed mood.

I absolutely love these VIBE LED patio lights that double up as outdoor speakers AND ice buckets.

It’s All in The Details

Little details and personal touches can really make a big difference too to the general ambience. Comfy cushions on the sofas inside and out, frozen berries instead of ice cubes, colourful bunting to decorate the garden. And what about filling recycled glass bottles with water beads and some seasonal flowers from the garden, and using recycled glass jars as laterns and inexpensive table decorations.

And there you have it, my top tips for hosting a Summer Party this year. Have I missed any? I’d love to hear what you do to make your Summer parties extra special.
