It’s such a cliché I know, but I seriously I can’t believe where the time has gone. On Monday, my youngest, my little blue eyed baby boy, my Oliver became 4 years old.
My Baby Boy Turns 4
The past 4 years have gone so quickly, and yet so much has happened. Oliver’s arrival into the world was fairly text book with no dramas, unlike when I had his big sister! He was a healthy 9lb baby boy even though he was nearly 2 weeks early.
Oliver was a really good baby, and fortunately a good sleeper. He slept through the night for the first time when he was just 12 weeks old! I thought it was an urban myth, but he was one of those babies that would fall asleep anywhere; in the highchair, on the playmat, in his dinner! He still is a good sleeper, the only thing is he hasn’t mastered the art of a lie in and is up early every day.
He has always been very spirited and cheeky, and he’s such a bulldozer! Fortunately we’ve had no major incidences but he has banged his head and split his lip more times than I can remember and is permanently covered in bruises.
As a toddler he was hard work, mainly because he had and still has no fear. As soon as he could walk, he would run off and I struggled to cope out with the two kids on my own. It’s no secret we had a really bad threenager period and I had real concerns about his behaviour.
However, since Christmas he has completed changed. He is still the cheeky little chappy he has always been, but I can see him growing, not just in height but in his strength of character. He is forming friendships for the first time with his fellow pre schoolers, and interacting with other children more. His behaviour generally has improved, not always, but we can trust him more.
He is also developing a really caring, gentle side of his character which I love. It’s a great contrast to the rough bostrius side of him! He will often bring me a daisy, hold hands with his sister, shows concern when needed and he shares my love of nature and animals.
I feel quite emotional about Oliver turning 4. My youngest turning 4 marks the end of our baby, toddler and nearly pre-school days. It’s the end of that chapter in our lives, and I feel sad that it’s over. However, I also love seeing my children growing and turning into the amazing little people that they are, and I am excited for the future too.
Now that Oliver is 4, I see an amazing caring but carefree spirited little boy with a large heart, and I couldn’t be prouder to call him my son.
Happy Birthday baby boy
