It’s been a whole week since I plucked up the courage and joined my local Slimming World group, and I’m pleased to say that I have actually really enjoyed it. Want to know how I got on?
Slimming World: Week #1
I came home from my first meeting feeling inspired. I took my Slimming World books to bed with me and made a menu plan and shopping list.
The following day I went to my local Iceland. There was loads of Slimming World products, I stocked up on ready meals and Slimming World burgers and sausages for those days when I don’t have time to cook, or i’m just not organised (yes it happens!). I did an on-line Tesco order for everything else I needed, and then there was no stopping me!
Breakfast
Most days the mornings are a bit of a rush, and I needed to find something to have for breakfast which was quick to prepare and eat and filled me up. So most days I had mixed berries (I bought frozen berries which I defrosted overnight) with granola and natural yoghurt and a sprinkling of cinnamon on top.

On days when I had more time, I had poached eggs on toast. I am still perfecting how to poach eggs, but when I have i’m going to devise a Slimming World friendly version of Scottish eggs benedict.
Lunch
Lunch mainly was salads, with a tin a mackerel. I did make myself a quinoa, butternut squash and pomegranate salad which was really lovely, and had it for lunch on a few days. I’d also have Ryvita (if i skip the granola in the morning), with homemade salmon and tarragon pate on made with fromage frais.

Dinner
I had a busy week with work, so for dinner we mainly had the ready meals that I had bought. The portion sizes are very generous, so me and James shared one between us, and had them with various accompaniments of rice or vegetebles. Next week I intend to get a bit more creative in the evenings.
Syns
I try to limit my syns as much as I can during the week, because i’m a bit partial to enjoying a glass of wine at the weekend, especially when the sun is shining! I do however need some. My treat at the end of the day with a cup of tea is a small fun box of smarties (3.5 syns), I sit there and pick at them so they last, and so far that’s be enough to keep me on the straight and narrow.
The Weigh In
So how did I do? I knew i’d lost some weight as my work scrub trousers were already not feeling as tight. I stepped on the scales and daren’t look at first, but was absolutely amazed to see that I had lost 7lbs in my first week! I came home like a giddy teenager, with a beaming smile across my face. I know you always lose more in your first week, but knowing that I am half a stone lighter already really gives me more determination that this time I’m going to crack it. Half a stone down, two and a half to go!

This is just the start of my Slimming World journey. I will be writing weekly posts on my progress along with recipes I’ve tried, as a document for myself and also (hopefully) as an inspiration to others. So please follow along for the ride, wish me luck!

Oh wow well done, that’s really good. I was looking at joining my local class only to find the location had changed to somewhere I can’t get to which is annoying. I might see if there any others nearby on a different day. #KCACOLS
It’s the only diet that’s really worked for me, worth taking a look to see what other classes are around. I think you can also join online? But personally I need a group to keep me disciplined x
That is incredible well done you. I’m a sw member but been very lapsed & put on 4 lbs and struggling to get back into it. Saturdays always go pear-shaped fir me. I need to get to Iceland but it’s not really near anywhere I usually go. #kcacols lifeinthemumslane
