These little Mummy Jam Jar Laterns are sooo super simple, that children of all ages can give them a go. Perfect for Halloween, or as a decoration for a spooky party. They’re so simple to make that when we first made them a few years ago, I just included them in one of my Halloween crafts round up posts. However, after digging out my collection of previously made Mummy Jam Jar Laterns for the 3rd year in a row, I realised that they really deserved a post of their own!
So with our annual Halloween party round the corner, I will be making some more of these to add to the collection. If you would like to have a go yourself then read on, or pin it for later!
Pin This! Mummy Jar Latern Craft
We used electrical tape to make our mummy jars which was really easy to use. There are however lots of alternatives you could use for the ‘bandages’. Washi tape, masking tape, gauze bandage or strips of cheesecloth or muslin would work equally as well. We also used jam jars as we have a lot in the house as I am a keen jam maker, however you could use jars of any size. Actually a collection of mummy jam jar laterns in different shapes and sizes would work really well.
You will need:
- Glass jars- any size
- Googley eyes
- PVA glue
- White tape (we used white electrical tape)
- LED candle
How You Make Your Mummy Jam Jar Laterns
- Take your glass jar and glue 2 googley eyes to it using the PVA glue.
- Then using the white tape, start at the bottom and wrap it around the jar, leaving some gaps and overlapping but not covering the googley eyes. If the glue is still wet you can reposition the eyes a bit to get the perfect position.
- Leave to dry and your done! We used a little LED tealight as a very safe but effective way to light up our lanterns.
They really are so simple to make, and really effective too!
