Personally I love February. Partly because it’s my birthday month, but also because as it’s such a short month Spring doesn’t feel too far away! The weather can be a little unpredictable, but there are plenty of family activities that you can do inside and out.
Pin Family Activities to do in February
Arts and Crafts
Naturally our crafts and indoor activities this month will have a strong bias towards Valentine’s Day!
Pom Pom Love Bugs
These super cute Pom Pom love bugs are simple to make with children of all ages. I also have a template for the hearts to make it super simple.
Fluffy Valentines Slime
What child doesn’t like slime? This is a simple recipe including a video tutorial on how to make this really stretchy fluffy valentines slime.
DIY Twine Hearts
This craft is suitable for older children and adults a like, with a full tutorial on how to make these rustic twine hearts.
It’s still a bit too cold to plant anything yet outside (although Spring is on it’s way!), but there are some great garden related activities you can do with the kids this month.
Making Bird Feeders
It’s important to look after our wildlife in the colder months, and Making Fat Balls for birds is a simple, fun activity to do with the kids in the warmth of your kitchen.
Making Cress Egg Heads
Growing Cress heads is a lovely little activity to do with the kids which allows them to develop their fine motor skills and learn and watch how our food grows from seeds. A great introduction to gardening whilst waiting for the warmer weather.
Just because the weather is a bit colder and sometimes wet and windy it doesn’t mean you can’t get outside and find some fun activities for all the family. There is also a half term holiday in February, so don’t forget to check out our Days Out section for our reviews of some great family days out.
Go On a Footprint Hunt
If it’s dry, this is the perfect time of year to go on a footprint hunt! The ground is nice and firm which is perfect for making plaster casts of animal tracks
In The Kitchen
With Valentine’s Day round the corner, naturally our kitchen creations have had a theme. These sweet treats are great fun to rustle up with the kids and make great edible Valentines gifts too! Oh and don’t forget about Shrove Tuesday towards the end of the month!
These remind me of my childhood eating those mallow biscuits with jam and coconut on. They are great fun to make, if not a little messy!
Who said making fudge was difficult? This recipe is super simple, and the fudge is AMAZING! Makes a great gift too for a loved one.
Check out my post on alternative recipes for Shrove Tuesday, there really is a pancake for everyone!
