Looking Back on My 2017 Blogging Goals

It’s so easy to look back on last year and think that I haven’t made any progress with my blog. Often work and life got in the way, and my blog had to take a back seat. So I thought it would be useful to look at what my goals were for last year, to see how far I’ve come, and to help me focus on new blogging goals for 2018.

Looking Back on My 2017 Blogging Goals

Be More Consistent

I am still working on this, and this is one of my main focuses this year. I started last year off so well, but as per usual life got in the way and my focus shifted and I become a sporadic poster yet again. I had a period of time in the summer where I was consistently posting 3-4 times a week. As a result I saw an increase in traffic and page views and got several options to work with brands.  So this will be my priority this year, and I’m scheduling like mad at the moment to try and get ahead of the game.

Social Media

Twitter: I had aimed to double my Twitter following from 2500, but it didn’t quite happen. I ended the year on just over 4200 so was a bit short. It’s something I will continue to work on, but I realised that although Twitter has my largest following, it probably drives the smallest amount of traffic to my blog. As a result I spent less time on it than other social media channels. If you’d like to follow me on Twitter, click here.

Facebook: Facebook was actually a huge success for me last year. After getting to grips with Google Analytics, I realised that the vast majority of my traffic was coming from Facebook, so I ought to spend a bit more time on it.  Well I started the year with 78 likes, and now have  just over 1200 likes, so smashed my goal of 500 likes out of the water. I also have a lot better engagement on my posts, so I must be doing something right!  If you’d like to pop over a give me a little like, you can find my page here.

Instagram: Instagram is a bit stagnant as far as numbers go for me, and I haven’t done anything to boost that really. I still love it though, and try to regularly post as I love to see all my photos in one place like snapshots of our year. I’m on 660 followers.  I’d like to hit the 1000 mark, but I won’t waste too much energy on it.  I get very little traffic from Instagram, but I will continue to use it as I enjoy it. If you’d like to follow my Instagram journey click here.

Pinterest: I hadn’t really used Pinterest before last year, so anything I’ve done is a bonus. I have 69 followers which is better than nothing, but I still have to crack Pinterst.  This is probably the one social media channel that I will be focusing a lot of my time on. I post a lot of recipes and crafts, and these type of posts lend themselves well to Pinterest, so it could potentially be a source of high volume traffic.

Start Vlogging

I wanted start vlogging last year, and I have, kind of. Well, I have a YouTube channel, I have made some videos (not many admittedly), and have a few (4 to be precise) subscribers to my channel. I really enjoy making and editing the videos, but it’s a time thing.  They take me so much time, and that still something I don’t have a lot of.

Attend a Blog Conference

Nope, this didn’t happen. Life just got in the way! Maybe I’ll try again this year.

Host my Own Linky Party

Still not done this either! However, this is on my radar for January. I have had the badge designed, I have the name, theme, everything in my head, I just need to get my bottom into gear and get things put into place. The plan is it will be a linky for any posts that encourage creativity in kids, whether it be craft projects, cooking or imaginary play. Watch this space!

Improve my Blog’s Ranking

At the end of 2016 I ranked 1014 in the  Tots 100 chart, last year I ended at 557, so didn’t quite crack it into the top 500. I will get there, hopefully in the next few months!

My Goals for 2018

  • Consistently post at least 3-4 x a week without fail
  • 6000 Twitter followers
  • 2000 Facebook Likes
  • 1000 Instagram followers
  • 500 Pinterest followers and see traffic from there
  • Vlogging- at least 2 videos a month, and get in front of the camera myself!
  • Go to a blog conference
  • Start my twitter linky party- in January hopefully!
  • Get into Tots 100 top 500

So thats it. It’s useful for me to look back on my goals a year ago. I had thought I hadn’t really achieved much last year, yet I’ve meet some of my goals and not been far off others. Either way, this year I start off focused, ambitious and ready to smash it!

What are your goals for 2018? Are they similar to mine?
