Preparing for Our Family Bushcraft Day! with Camp Wilderness

Bushcraft

I’m excited, we all are excited! Not only because it’s the weekend, but also because tomorrow we are going on a family bushcraft day with Camp Wilderness.  So tonight we are getting our stuff ready for the outdoor adventures we are going to have tomorrow.

Family Bushcraft Day with Camp Wilderness

We are lucky enough to have been invited along by Camp Wilderness to a family bushcraft day which is taking place tomorrow in Hatfield Woods.  We are all very excited, James in particular (he’s such a big kid anyway!) especially when he saw that we would be taught how to light fires with flint and steel!  I’m not sure what it is about men and fires, but it seemed to spark (get it!) his enthusiasm.

As a family we love being outside, and the kids are so relaxed when we are able to give them free reign to explore, get muddy and let their imaginations run wild.  Tomorrow promises to let them do just that. Learning about camouflage,  getting in the undergrowth and building fires are perfect activities for my little prince who loves nothing more than to pick up sticks and get muddy. There are also some activities making tribal bracelets and flags planned which should satisfy my little crafty princess. Personally, i’m looking forward to the whole day but in particular cooking lunch on a fire that we have built.

Be Prepared!

In preparation for our day tomorrow I’ve checked the weather.  It is forecast that the sun is supposed to shine (I will believe that when I see it), but it’s likely still to be a bit nippy.  So we are going to be wearing our walking boots and warm clothes. We will take water bottles, hats, gloves, waterproof outer layers and torches (the kids are insistent!) in our back packs.  Just to be on the safe side I’m chucking the wellies and spare changes of clothes in the car.  With a 3 and 5 year old let loose in the woods, and an daddy acting like a big kid, who knows what will happen!
