Slimming World: My Journey Starts Here

slimming world journey

I have been thinking about joining my local Slimming World group for a while now, and Wednesday night I finally bit the bullet and went to my local class.  It wasn’t nearly as scary or daunting as I thought it would be, and I am now excited about the start of my Slimming World Journey.

My Slimming World Journey Starts Here!

I have always struggled with my weight. In my twenties I was diagnosed with PCOS and an underactive thyroid, which i’m not using as an excuse, but it did mean I found it very easy to put on weight and very diificult to lose it.

When I turned 30 I joined Slimming World, it had worked for me in the past but i’d never stuck to it for long enough.  This time I was successful and lost 2 1/2 stone in 6 months.  I was over the moon, and felt so much more confident with my new shape.  I will never be skinny, and in the words of Bridget Jones ‘I will always be a little bit fat’, but I’ve accepted that. I was comfortable as a healthy size 14.

I managed to maintain it for while, but I started a new relationship with James and  nights in with a takeaway and meals out meant I slipped back into some old habits and I put back on a stone.  Never the less I was still happy and confident.

I feel pregnant with Isla in 2011, and ended up swapping nights out, with takeaways and bags of giant chocolate buttons. Combined with cravings for Hula Hoops and Cadbury Boost bars it’s no wonder that I ballooned. I never weighed myself towards the end but I had gained in excess of 5 stone.

After having Isla, I lost 2 stone very quickly through a traumatic birth (that’s a whole other story!) and breastfeeding, and continued to lose a further half a stone gradually. I re-joined Slimming World when I stopped breastfeeding at 4 months and started off well getting slimming of the week in my second week and slimming of the month in my first month! However 2 months into it I found out I was expecting again and decided to stop.

With my second pregnancy I was a lot more careful and only gained 2 1/2 stone, which was a lot easier to shift after Oliver was born.

Since then I have been up and down, losing a stone, then gradually putting it back on.  Oliver is now 3 and I can no longer call the extra weight that I am carrying around ‘baby weight’. Whilst I embrace the changes to my body that allowed the creation of my two beautiful children (my love hate relationship with my tummy), I would like to lose the excess weight that is purely down to excess consumption of wine and convenience foods.

So finally after lots of indecisiveness and realising that I do not have the will power to lose the weight without some help, I have joined my local Slimming World with a work colleague to see if I can win the battle once and for all.

This is the start of my Slimming World journey. I will be writing weekly posts on my progress along with recipes I’ve tried, as a document for myself and also (hopefully) as an inspiration to others. So please follow along for the ride, wish me luck!

    1. They say if you write things down you are more likely to stick to it! That’s why I thought I would write a weekly blog post to hopefully keep me on track. Thanks for your comments x

  1. Good luck! I have an underactive thyroid too and have lost half a stone since starting SW at the end of April. I would love to get back to my pre-thyroid weight haha! #KCACOLS

    1. Ah well done you! I need to work on some slimming world friendly recipes so I can still bake and stay on plan x

  2. Well done for joining! Huge good luck to you. I always stick by Slimming World.
I did loose 3 and a half stone but I gained it all back on – all my fault for not sticking to plan! – I am still a member now during my pregnancy and determined to get back to plan once baby arrives.

    1. Thank you. I wish I’d stayed as a member during my second pregnancy so I could have tackled my weight sooner. X

  3. I’ve always been wary about slimming clubs but SW has impressed me with a more realistic and sustainable approach to healthy eating rather than dieting.

Good luck and I hope you find the support you need. There’s lots of inspiration on Pinterest and Facebook for free, low syn and heath swaps. Just be warned some of the SW recipes can be heavy on spices! Tread gently!

  4. Stopping by for #MarvMondays too. If you didn’t already know Iceland is the source of the ready meals and if you buy 3 I think you get a multi pack of the Muller light free. These are the basis of a lot of the SW deserts and you can use them for syn free pancakes (using oats rather than flour).
